What people love about Kefalonia

Janet

“We always really enjoy our holidays in Skala, we usually stay at Zephyros hotel but last year it was closed due to Covid so stayed in Paspalis, both hotels are welcoming and friendly. Though the Zephyros is up a steep hill, the peace and quiet there is so calming. Would recommend either hotel. Our favourite restaurants are Manolis Taverna and Socrates Taverna. Both are no nonsense tavernas with great food and atmosphere. Our favourite bars are Akri bar, Captains bar, My Way bar and we always finish off in Loco bar to have a catch up with Christos and Georgia. They host a northern soul and Motown night at least twice a week. Can’t wait to get back to Skala”

Lourdas is brilliant!! It’s friendly, with great restaurants, very safe, has a lovely beach and is beautiful.
I recommend Lourdas for the perfect holiday destination”

”I love Kefalonia for so many reasons. The warmth and hospitality of the Kefalonian people fills my heart with joy. The sheer beauty of the island is breath-taking at times. The food is the best I’ve ever tasted, so fresh and healthy. The lovely warm clean air makes me feel 10 years younger. There’s a laid back friendly atmosphere, wherever you go. The only thing I don’t like, is when I have to leave, I cry every time, heart breaking’

”I stayed in Agia Effimia in August 2019. My friends and I found a lovely hotel with a pool, the one with the amazing views, the Gonatas Hotel, beautiful place, the scenery is amazing. Great restaurants nearby. Ithaki and the boat trip from the harbour was fab too”

”I fell in love with Kefalonia 15 years ago when I went with a friend. I just had that really strong feeling to go there and it certainly paid off. I love the island, the food and the friendly homely people. I have been back most years with my husband and fortunately he’s hooked on the island too. We personally love Lourdas and have made several Greek friends, and can’t wait to go again”

”We stayed at San Giorgio Hotel in 2019 for the 3rd time. It’s a great hotel, it’s a long way from the main village, but the free bus is great. The food is great, rooms are lovely and staff very helpful. The hotel is set up on a hill so great for views. Make sure that you have one or more meals in the village, Old Times and Ta Pitharia are excellent. Make sure you call into the bakery opposite the church on the main street, Nikos will look after you

We first visited Kefalonia in 2019 and stayed just outside Skala. We love Skala, particularly the little secluded coves just outside Skala, which are like Paradise, with crystal clear turquoise waters teaming with lots of different fish.
One of the day trips we took from Skala was a boat trip with Captain Vangelis to Fiskardo, making stops at Agia Sophia, Sami and Melissani Lake on the way and Koutsoupia beach as our final swim stop, on the way back.
We absolutely loved Fiskardo, so pretty and so our 2nd holiday in 2020 we were very lucky to spend 5 days there staying at the Fiscardo Bay Hotel which has stunning views of Ithaca and the lovely harbour at Fiskardo. Whilst in Fiskardo we visited, Assos, Alaties Beach, Foki BeachEmplissi Beach and Myrtos”

I had a lovely two week holiday staying at Trapezaki Village in September 2019. Would love to return one day, the views we had were fantastic. Kanali Beach was well worth the walk down but be sure you have a cold Mythos ready for you once you get back up the hill

I’ve stayed in Skala twice now at the San Giorgio and was supposed to go back on 29th June to stay at The Nine Muses but due to Covid had to push our stay back to June 2022…. so sad because its such a beautiful place and my “go to” happy place! Captains bar has such a chilled relaxing vibe and one of my favourite bars there. There are also lots of great places to eat and everyone is so very friendly

My brother in law owns Villa Robola in Mavrata. It’s beautiful. I love the island have been 2/3 times now and booked to come again in July. I am just hoping that Greece goes ‘Green’ from the UK. Cannot wait to see this beautiful place again

”We both love Assos and the whole island. We have come at least twice a year if not three times a year.
We now feel like locals. We love the fish restaurant at the end of the harbour wall – the food is delicious 😋

Been coming to Kefalonia for almost 20 years, sometimes twice a year and have always stayed in Skala. When I first started coming I was a single mum with two girls 6 & 11, it was the first time I’d taken the girls abroad on my own. Skala felt so safe and the locals so friendly and helpful that I just kept coming back. My girls are now grown women but still return to Skala by their own choice, so that says a lot! Over the past few years I’ve stayed at the Anassa Hotel, the staff feel like friends and Efi and George like my mum and dad. They cant do enough for you and make you feel special and important, I love them all. Can’t see me going anywhere else for my holidays x
