The Lourdas area has Mount Ainos as its impressive backdrop and if you base yourself here you will thoroughly enjoy the fabulous views across the water to the island of Zakynthos.
The beach is at the bottom of a steep hill but this does not deter thousands of people every year; walk down, if you are fit enough or catch the regular local bus. The beach at Lourdas has an excellent selection of café bars and tavernas all along its 1km flat promenade.
The village of Vlachata, which sits above Lourdas, has a fine selection of shops, tavernas, hotels, villas, apartments and bars; there’s even a bar at the local post office, or should that be a post office in the local bar 😉 it’s on the main road at the top of the village.
Les ”I love Lourdas because the people are so friendly and welcoming at the many tavernas where delicious food is enjoyed. The beach is sandy and the sea is so inviting”
Chris ”I stayed in Vlachata a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, my favourite restaurants were Olive Lounge (which is now in Kastro) and La Mer. It was a downhill trek to the beach but well worth the effort, fabulous place”
Debra ”Lourdas is wonderful I’ve been there 5 times and absolutely love the beach, the scenery, the bars and restaurants and the hospitality”
